Massage is a curative procedure that is highly beneficial for the entire system of the body. Normally dry palms are used for massage; but if the skin is too dry or if the body is excessively weak, soothing oil may be used. Among oils, sesame (til) oil is considered best for massaging the body.
Health benefits of massage
Massage has several health benefits. Few of them are as below –
1. Muscles – Massage reduces the tension in the muscles and relieves muscular pain. Strenuous exertion results in the accumulation of lactic acid in the muscles. Massage helps to rid the muscles of this acid and thus imparts a feeling of freshness and vigor.
2. The heart – Systematic massage will reduce the burden on the heart, and thus increase its efficiency.
3. Nerves – Slow and gentle massage with light pressure relieve tension of the nerves and soothe them. Vigorous massage stimulates lax nerves and increases their efficiency.
4. Skin – Massage has beneficial effects on the skin. The pores of the skin are opened up, thus helping of the elimination of toxins from the body through perspiration.
5. Circulation of the blood – The circulation of the blood in the part being massaged is speeded up, so that the part is supplied with more nutrients, and its healing powers are augmented. The accelerated circulation reduces swelling. There is an increase in the capacity of the blood to carry oxygen and to utilize it effectively.
6. The digestive system – Massaging the abdomen stimulates the digestive system, and promotes better elimination of wastes. The resistive powers of the body are strengthened due to the increase in the efficiency of the liver.
7. The urinary system – Massaging activates the urinary system. As a result the process of elimination of toxic substances from the body through the urine is accelerated by the formation of greater quantities of urine.

As you know, working the buttock muscles with your thumbs is oh so tiring. Use of elbows in this region is definitely best. Considering the gluteal muscles are the largest in the body they hold a lot of tension and can be the source of much referred pain all throughout the body, emotions also get […]

(Best Syndication) Pinon Hills CA – Doctors should evaluate patients on a case by case basis before going forward with arthroscopic surgery for pain and swelling in arthritic knees, according to research from the Cochrane Collaboration. The Cochrane Collaboration was founded in 1993 and named after the British epidemiologist, Archie Cochrane.
The group says that arthroscopic debridement (AD) might still improve comfort and mobility in patients who suffer from the most common form of arthritis. “It should by no means be regarded as inappropriate for every knee,” says said lead author Wiroon Laupattarakasem, M.D., of Khon Kaen University in Thailand. AD is one of three types of anthroscopic surgeries the Cochrane Collaboration evaluated.

I recently gave a Hot Stone massage to a woman who was redeeming a gift certificate. She has received it from a family member for Christmas.
As we were doing her intake, she admitted she was nervous about the treatment, and wasn’t sure she wanted an hour and a half, as it seemed like a long time. After some further discussion, she also admitted she was not fond of massage on the whole and that she wasn’t much of a hot bath, sauna, or other heat treatment person.
I let her know that she didn’t have to have the treatment if she didn’t want to. She said she still wanted to try it, because it was a gift and she couldn’t know if she would enjoy Hot Stone massage unless she tried it. I then let her know that if part way through she decided the stones were just not her thing, we could switch to another sort of massage therapy, and I would not be offended in the least. She was thankful I had said that, and said that had been on her mind. I then explained how the entire treatment would proceed, and that she could let me know if anything is uncomfortable at any time.
One-and-a-half hours later, she came out of the treatment room and sleepily said it was a wonderful treatment and she was so glad she tried it. She was sure to take some clinic pamphlets with her and was curious about the other sorts of treatments available at the clinic.
Why am I posting this? I want to remember that massage, and how the client reacted, and how at the end of the day communication with your client is nearly as important as the treatment itself.

Spinal cord injuries can cause a bruise, hemorrhage or laceration in the spinal cord. There is often concern about using bodywork under these sorts of circumstances. These damages can result in short- and long-term motor and sensory disability. You certainly want to be clear with the client and with their physician about any contraindications.

Each Meridian has been assigned the name of an organ. This can get confusing because, for example, the lung meridian lies along the arm, and the liver meridian lies along the leg. The name assigned to a meridian refers not to the meridian’s external location on the body but to the functional influence of the […]

I have found three major types of shiatsu being practiced, each having the goal of balancing energy flow: shiatsu, acupressure, and zen shiatsu.
I spoke earlier in my amma post of shiatsu massage and how it views the body purely from an anatomic perspective. Along with using massage techniques, hard pressure is applied to the body […]

Preparing your mind for your sessions is something we all do differently. Some bodyworkers don’t do it at all. I am confident in saying that these bodywork sessions tend to be the ones that aren’t delivering the most healing attributes. There are many forms of meditation and I encourage each one of you to find […]
