Bodywork Tables: What To Look For

The world of the masseuse is an engaging and eclectic one, but it is truly nothing without quality massage tables. Massage tables can transform the entire experience of the massage into something that is safer, more practical, and easier on the masseuse. Without a proper table, many clients are apt to go home with posture problems instead of a fully relaxed body.

If you are giving a Swedish massage, massage tables are of extreme importance. The main purpose of a Swedish massage is to relax muscles by applying pressure to them, thus increasing oxygen and helping with blood flow. Without proper posture and proper height of the patient, Swedish massage may not be possible. Massage tables can change all of that, however, and can turn a stooped-over, unfulfilling Swedish massage experience into a life-changing event.

Another form of massage that requires proper massage tables is stone therapy. The stones are laid on the patient and then manipulated. A proper massage table would stabilize the patient for the stone therapy, making it more effective. Without the proper massage tables, stone therapy may actually be ineffectual and somewhat dangerous.

Most businesses that offer some form of spa massage do have the proper massage tables. This makes the experience at the spa massage incredible. It allows the masseuse to work with his or her hands fully and have the client at the perfect height for the best results, instead of relying on poor posture and other manipulations to get at the body parts that need the most work. One of the reasons spa massage places provide such a good experience is because they have the proper equipment, making for a wondrous and relaxing time.

Massage tables can be found almost anywhere that massage equipment is sold. There are often warehouses filled with massage tables. These places commonly allow the purchasers to relax on the table and see if it “fits right” before making the purchase.

All in all, massage tables can add so much to the experience of the massage. They can increase the ability of the masseuse to get around to the body parts that need the most attention and they can improve the comfort of the patient. Massage tables are the most important advantage that a masseuse can have besides his or her hands.

Complementary Therapies for Stroke Rehabilitation

In the United States, only heart disease and cancer affect more people than strokes do and, according to the American Stroke Association, most of them are preventable with early intervention.

A stroke, which is characterized by a lack of adequate blood and oxygen to the brain, can be caused by several factors, including blood clots that lodge in a cerebral artery or in the brain, or by a hemorrhage resulting from ruptured blood vessels.

The amount of damage done depends in large part on the part of the brain affected and how long before it is treated. The results of a mild stroke can be barely noticeable, while a severe stroke can result in paralysis, loss of language skills and/or personality changes.

Massage therapists can be helpful in easing the resulting symptoms of stroke through the use of several complementary therapies. Reflexology might be used when traditional Swedish massage is contraindicated. It is gentle and doesn’t have as much of a direct effect on circulation. Adding aromatherapy may also be beneficial, as certain essential oils may help with relaxation, which is important in stroke recovery. Modalities such as shiatsu, which follow traditional Chinese medicine theory, can help improve blood flow and bring oxygen to the brain.

While it may be several weeks before massage therapy can be used to help in the recovery of stroke victims, the use of light, slow stroke massage has been shown to be beneficial in reducing blood pressure and easing the pain or anxiety that many people experience.

With early intervention, recovery from a stroke can be quicker and the effects can be less debilitating. Recognition of symptoms is important in getting early treatment, which is so crucial in recuperation. If you see a person experiencing sudden and unexplained slurring of speech, numbness in one arm, or if one side of their face appears to droop on one side, the best thing is to call 911 immediately.

Learn more about the causes and symptoms of stroke, and how massage therapy can help.

Day Spas To Cleanse Your Mind

Day spas can be a great place to go on a retreat for work or just a fun place to go with a group of friends for a weekend. It can be made into an elaborate event or even into something that will be special and exciting for you to enjoy, let alone having quality time with some people that you care about. Many day spas will offer group packages that will include lodging so as to bring people in. Take advantage of these and take your friends with you. Not all spas are created the same. Some are multifaceted creations which will provide something for everyone. Many are attached to resorts which will provide entertainment and activities for both the women and men. Some are attached to a golf course, while others are on a small lake to increase the attractiveness of the resort and spa.

There are however many benefits that can be taken advantage in regards to the day spa by itself. There is of course the wide variety of massages that are offered at the place that can range from sports, to Swedish to deep tissue among others. These massages will help to ease the stress and aches that you brought with you on your retreat. Many of these day spas will feature a pool for you to relax in as well. Of course there is the sauna for you to relax in that will help to ease away the problems and issues that are in your body right now. It will do this by cleaning out your pores and letting all of the impurities slip away. There is the whirlpool that will help to ease the stress from your body and muscle aches by forcing streams of water against your body. Many of the benefits and advantages of a day spa can be felt more in the course of a couple of days as opposed to feeling the pressures of trying to cram all of it into one day which would defeat the purpose of the going to the spa in the first place.

When looking into planning a retreat or going to day spas for a weekend of relaxation make sure you do your research. Figure out which resort or spa will offer the most benefit to you and your friends. Not all of the spas that you visit will offer the same benefits and privileges so look into what they have and what they can do for you. Figure out what you are looking for and how well the facility will provide for it. Look into the history of the facility and determine if it has a good enough history and reputation to receive your business. Think of all of the benefits that you and your party can receive if you use this facility and if it will be worth their investment to go there before you make a final decision. Consider all of the benefits and then make your decision on where to go based on which place best fills these.
