(Best Syndication News) - One-third of US adults with arthritis who are over the age of 45 also suffer from anxiety or depression. Researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published their results on anxiety and depression with arthritis patients in today’s issue of Arthritis Care & Research; a journal published by Wiley-Blackwell, which is also the official journal of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR).

Anxiety was around twice as common than depression in those suffering from arthritis. Despite the higher occurrence of anxiety, doctors tend to treat the depression more often. The researchers found anxiety in 31 percent of the participants, while depression was measured in 18 percent of the participants. Additionally, 84 percent of the participants who had depression also had anxiety.

(Best Syndication News) - Cholesterol lowering medications prescribed by doctors have new important safety information announced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These include not needing to do routine blood tests for liver enzymes, memory loss problems, increased diabetes risk, and muscle damage risk.

The FDA is advising health care professionals that routine blood tests for liver enzymes are no longer necessary because they did not prove to be helpful in preventing rare cases of serious liver injury that can happen when taking statins.

Memory loss, forgetting, and being confused have been reported as a side effect from some people taking statin medications. The memory loss was described as being “fuzzy.” The FDA said that the memory loss was reversible once the person stopped taking the medication.

The University of Gothenburg’s Sahlgrenska Academy researchers studied 833 Swedish men to determine that exercise in the early twenties helped to promote bone growth. Previous research concluded that the more bone mass people accumulate when young, the lower the risk for fractures from osteoporosis when they are older. In addition, other research has found that exercise before and during puberty is beneficial in making bones stronger.

(Best Syndication News) - The US Food and Drug Administration announced that The McNeil Consumer Healthcare Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain lots of Motrin products because the company is concerned that they might not dissolve as quickly when they near the expiration date. They determined this during sample product testing and will recall the product from retailers only for quality standard concerns.

There are no adverse events or health risks with this recall. The medicine can still be taken; however, the company wants to let consumers know that the product can be delayed in offering pain relief when nearing the expiration date. The company will be recalling the product from retailers of the involved lots. They will not be issuing a consumer product recall at this time. The products were distributed to the US, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Fiji, Belize, ST. Lucia, and Jamaica.

(Best Syndication News) - Two rare disorders that cause vasculitis, Wegener’s granulomatosis (WG) and microscopic polyangiitis (MPA), have a new treatment called Rituxan (rituximab) that was approved by the FDA today. The Rituxan along with glucocorticoids (steroids) is the treatment that was approved for the treatment of these rare disorders. Rituxan is the first approved therapy that is used to treat these diseases. Rituxan is made by Genentech, who is part of the Roche Group. Rituxan has been approved since 1997 to treat non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Rituxan uses biotechnology methods to make an antibody that reduces the amount ‘B cells’ which are specific immune cells. There was a single controlled trial study of 197 patients that had either WG or MPA. The researchers randomly assigned the patient Rituxan plus glucocorticoids once a week for four weeks or they gave the patient an oral cyclophosphamide plus glucocorticoids daily. The study duration at six months showed the patients that had the Rituxan with the glucocorticoids had 64 percent of the patients have complete remission. The cyclosphosphamide and glucocorticoids patients had 53 percent achieve complete remission.

In many, many ways our hands are what separate us from lower life forms. Our hands, when used in conjunction with the boundless imagination and creativity that pours forth from our minds, enable us to create tools, art, and virtually everything that makes humans unique. Like our voices, our hands are one of the most important ways in which we communicate with the world.

As the world becomes increasingly dependent on technology, our hands are becoming ever more important in our ability to communicate. Every email, every text, every touch screen we encounter involves our ability to use our hands to shape our message to the world. That is why it can be absolutely devastating when a debilitating injury to the hand occurs.

If you’ve been waking up with a strange sensation in your hands, such as numbness, tingling, or burning—you might be in the first stages of carpal tunnel syndrome. This condition occurs when a nerve in the wrist of one or both hands becomes compressed, which over time weakens the muscles and causes feelings of numbness.

There may be some pain and discomfort, but the biggest indicator that carpal tunnel is present is a regular feeling of the hand “falling asleep.” If left too long, carpal tunnel can cause permanent damage to the hand, making bending the thumb and index fingers difficult. The causes of this condition are largely attributed to genetic factors; however, some studies point to work-related activities as culprits.

You need to determine the type of stairway that you have at home. If it is a straight, then you will need the straight stair lift. This is the cheapest type because it is a straight run.

If your stairway has curves, twists or landings in between, you will need the curved stair lift. Usually, curved stair lifts have to be custom made and is very expensive. If your stairway has two straight runs with a landing in between, you can opt for two straight stair lifts, which can be can cost less compared to a curved stair lift.

Many people would dismiss arthritis as a simple and natural process of aging when in fact it is not. It is a crippling disease; slow yet decapitating. Arthritis has many forms and accompanying painful symptoms. Somehow, in the advent of modern-day technology and medical breakthroughs, we look for an organic alternative way of battling arthritis knowing that it is safer and economical yet effective.

Arthritis simply means inflammation of the joints. We have a variety of joints in our body and this condition pertains to the swelling and pain that occurs in the affected area of someone inflicted with it.

What happens to the affected area is coined as “cartilage and bone gravel.” Due to the overstretching of muscles which cause damage to the joints, what is left of the bones as well as the cartilage, would forcefully rub against each other which causes throbbing pain as well as worsening the damage of the affected joints. This continues to happen over and over again; it becomes a painful cycle and it gets worse over time.
